India 2007
I flew from Istanbul to New Delhi, actually I hate flying if I'm on the way by bike. I had a big cultur shok in my first step in India. It's difficult to discribe, you just have to live it. But it's the reality there are thousands of different region in the world that we no idea about their culture. I rode from India to Nepal and flew to Bangkok. From there I went for a new adventure to Laos and came back to Thailand. I was 4 months on the way with my bicycle. I would like to share my experience with you. I thank you for taking your time to be with me.

Things can happen.
I wrote a lot of comments under the pictures but one day I pressed the wrong button in Laos, then all the comments have dissapeared
I had to rewrite everything again from the beginning.

Keep biking and smiling
At the Gandhi airport. The first impression was terrible. I expected an airport with world standard. Indians put a nets under the ceiling to keep the falling parts unfortunately I couldn't take a picture.

I was standing front of the Nepalese border for a new adventure. I actually made a different experience in India. Sometimes I was very happy sometimes not, it's the vocation on the bike. India was very colorfull country but the dirty enviroment made living there difficult. I really have to say I enjoy the Indian food. I could eat everything in restaurants because they usually offered vegetarian food. The weather was colder than I expected but I survived.
The border had no check point. They just recognised me from my outfit then I had to come back to get a visa for Nepal.
Most friendly immigration officer I have ever seen. He gave me a Nepal map and finished my visa in 2 minutes.
After India the culture has changed. In Nepal the women and men work, have a bath
and live together thanks to Buddha religion.
After the border has everything changed. The roads were less crowded, the air and the enviroment were cleaner than India. I could breathe again.
I just needed a few minutes to have fun with kids.
Look at the brave passenger.
The roads were not so good everytime.
I had a feeling that I was riding in Switzerland.
Run, run an alien is coming by bike.
A concert in the middle of the mountains and a nice meeting. I'm sure that I was the first Turkish singer for them.
You can see how challenging the roads were in the Nepalese mountains.

It was cold and dark suddenly. I didn't want to stay on the cold mountain over night and I rode to the lower valley in dark. But it was one of the dangerous ride in my life. It was so dark and the over taking the slow trucks was very risky.
After 3 cups (beer glasses) of tea I felt a little bit warmer.
Here is my luxury chalet without heating but it was at least clean. Having a warm blanket is the only luxury.
Women work harder than men, what I observed in the most of the countries.

Unfortunatly my days in Nepal were over.
It's the most annoying job, packing my bike at the airport because I had a big audience.
Now the next destination is Thailand.
It was an interesting take off in Kathmandu. The aeroplane made a second round fly to get enough altitude to cross the high Himalayan mountains.
Himalayan Mountains, the last sight for this time.
I really liked the Nepalese hospitality and the nice country. I realised the mountains made me happier than flat land. The people were very very friendlyand I would visit Nepal soon.

A small village.
There were a lot of snakes on the roads in Laos. I had to ride very carefully.
Do you see the man with a gun, a security guard for a bus. All the main road from south to north was very dangerous area. Busses had security guards like him. In 2006 two swiss cyclists have been killed by gun fire on the road where I had to go in next 3 days. Then I hesitated after that story a while but I still trusted in friendly Laotianers and in myself. Decision: Keep biking.
This picture showed that the time is 100 years back.

A typical Thai dinner with my Thai friends Man and Bo.
It was my bike tour in 2007/08. I loved it mostly but I hated it sometimes too. It wasn't a usual vacation but I could learn a lot from different cultures. When I was alone on the road I could listen my soul and I am sure that I found a better way to enjoy the rest of my life. I had a chance to compare the life styles between the countries, poor and rich and I saw and realised we, who read these lines are very lucky to have a better life standards than the most of the people in the world.
I will be very happy if you dropp a few lines in my "Guest Book" . Thanks.
